What are tags?
Tags are custom keywords members may attach to ratings and reviews to describe sites to make them easier for others to find.
You may apply up to 5 tags per site you review; each tag can be as long as three words, separated by spaces, maximum 32 characters. Blog posts added to your profile may not be tagged.
Tips for Reporting Miscategorized Sites
Here are some general misclassification tips:
- When classifying sites, remember to put them in the most specific category where most people will appreciate it. For example, if there is a weblog about cars, it would probably be better under Cars than under Weblog.
- DO NOT manipulate categories to send a message. “christanitysucks.com” most likely does not fit under Christanity. Atheism or even better Religion would be more appropriate.
- If there are naked people, it’s Adult Humor not Humor.
- If it is a news site without specific focus like CNN, it’s News(General), otherwise it’s whatever topic the news falls under.
- Personal sites with non-topical, personal information belong in Personal Sites.
- All stumbler’s blog pages belong in Stumblers, except pages with adult content which belong in Adult Stumblers.
- Advertising is for content about advertising, not for ads themselves. A page full of banner ads should be reported as spam using the “Report Spam” option in the stumble menu.
- When in doubt: Internet, Cyberculture, Adult Humor, Humor, Bizarre/Oddities.
- Quickly select a topic in the drop down by typing the first few letters.
- Ecommerce is a topic for pages specifically about Ecommerce, such as a company that sells online credit card processing software. It is not for sites that makes money over the web. For example, a rare book seller belongs in Books, not Ecommerce.
- If something is X-rated, it almost certainly belongs in Pornography.
Certain stumblers help with approving misclassification changes. StumbleUpon has a dual-approval process so that sites are put into the right topics. You can apply to be a “miscatter” through the feedback system. Here are some tips specifically for miscatters:
- (A) = Adult, (P) = Pornographic
- keyboard shortcuts: ‘,’ = bogus ‘.’ = change ‘/’ = skip ‘’’ = preview
